Travel Ideas - Thailand - Cooking Schools
Thailand offers many options for learning Thai Cooking, from one day classes to fully certified courses, there is something for everyone. These course a suitable for children if they are old enough to cook at home.
During your course you will most likely visit a local market in the morning to buy your supplies. This is a great opporunity to learn about Asian food and experience how the Thai people shop. The great thing about the classes is the instructors will offer advise on what items to substitute in your local country.
When back in the class the teacher will show you how to cook a number of different dishes and then watch you as you try your hand at cooking the dish yourself. Most schools will range from 4-5 dishes.
After cooking your meal the best part comes, sitting down and eating your delicious meals. Some schools will invite your family or friends to enjoy the meals with you due to the amount of food cooked in one class.
The schools usually provide you with a take home recipe book and some chilli paste, an essential ingrediant in all Thai dishes.
In some cases after the cooking class and lunch you are given a traditional Thai massage. This is a really nice way to end a great day.
The photos in this blog show the steps involved in making rice noodles and chilli paste. My cooking experience was while on a homestay and it was a great way to see the equipment the Thai people use around a country home.
The are so many options for cooking classes so my advice is to speak to the tourise information centre in your chosen destination. They are all over Thailand and all Thai tourist operaters speak English so you don't have to worry about communication.
