Family Health: 6 Steps to better health

 1. Eat a Healthy Breakfast

Breakfast provides our bodies and brains with energy.  Did you know that people who miss breakfast often suffer from concentration problems & tiredness throughout the day. Breakfast helps to kickstarts the metabolism , if you have no fuel the metabolism slows down which result in putting on weight, even if your energy intake (food) is low.

2. Eat when hungry.

Before you reach for your next snack ask yourself if you are really hungry. Often we eat out of emotion or stimulation, so if you find yourself dreaming about chips or cake for your next snack, ask yourself if you want some fruit instead. If the answer is no, then you probably aren't really hungry.

3. Walking

Walking is a great source of exercise which relieves stress and helps keep the weight down. When walking we burn fuel from our FAT stores because our body is working Aerobically. Try and walk 30 minutes each day or 3 x 10 minutes if you don't have the time.

4. Drink Water

Drink 6-8 glasses of water a day to help cleanse your body and keep it hydrated. People who drink only when they are thirsty are already slightly dehydrated so keep a bottle handy throughout the day. Thirst can often be confused with hunger so keeping hydrated can help with weight loss.

5. Replace take away

Swap take away for healthy picnics or BBQ's you will save on money and on the waistline. Just make sure you choose healthy foods such as chicken kababs, BBQ corn, healthy sandwhices, fruit and so on.

6. Watch your serving sizes

Have you ever noticed that meals seem to keep getting bigger but we continue to eat them. Some meals provide enough evergy to keep us going for more than a day so next time your out share your meal with your kids or friends and ask for additional plates. It will save you money and help you to keep the weight down without missing out.
