Kids Health - Why do kids put on weight?


  • Healthy food is being replaced with processed food more as fast food becomes more widely available so try choosing something healthy next time you go out with kids.
    • Buying a bowl of chips or hamburger can be a lot cheaper than the healthier alternative so try having a BBQ in the park or pack the kids lunch on day trips.

      • Kids nag us about eating unhealthy food so it can be easier to let them but try not to let them manipulate you, if you always give in they will always ask.
      • Serving sizes are too big so if you have children you can share a meal and get more plates.
      • Like toys, there are huge marketing campaigns created to influence our children to eat unhealthy food so try packing your child's favourite toy in a lunch box as a surprise next time you go out.
      • Daily activities such as walking to school are changing as a result of safety fears and transportation availability so try to walk to school with your kids once a week or if they are old enough, let them ride to school.
      • Some Children spend too much time watching TV so make sure you limit TV time or at least reduce the time they are spending now.
