How to Fish with Young Children
Daniel - 3yrs |
Fishing with young children can be loads of fun, providing that you remember that children to get bored quickly so the 8 hour long stints at fishing are probably out until they are a bit older.
At the moment when we fish with our kids, Ben 1 and Daniel 3, we fish from the shoreline where there are no waves, a river or lake. My preference is actually boat fishing but this is a little impossible with my climbing 1 year old who would drive me crazy all day long.
Kids love to get involved in parents activities so even if you can't do it how you used to without the kids it is great preparation for longer fishing trips when they are older.
Some Tips;
- Fishing by a lake, beach or river that is near a park is a great idea that allows the kids to chose whether they fish or play.
- Always remember safety; don't leave sharp knife and hooks lying around.
- Show them how to cast of and reel in, if they are too young cast for them
- With really young kids you can tie a weight to the line and let them get used to the feel of the fishing rod
- Have plenty of snacks
- Don't forget the sunscreen
- Remember to take jackets and insect repellant
