How to Make A Spider Cake

Do you have a Birthday coming up?
What about a Spider Cake.

Personally I think this cake is a bit on the ugly side but I made it for my sons 3rd birthday and he still talks about it today. It was also really fun to make and a hit with the other boys.

Steps to making a Spider Cake
  • Chocolate cake recipe x 3 batches.
  • 2 Cake Pans (1 needs to be slightly smaller than the other  - fill bigger one 3/4 and the other 1/2
  • 1 Bowl for Body - fill to design size of body (allow for cake to rise)
  • 1 Bowl for head - fill to sesign size of head (small is good)
  • Royal Icing
  • Liqorice Straps for Legs
  • Colouring (any - the body is not black, just the cystals)
  • Coloured Sugar Crytals (black and orange Hair)
  • White stick lollies (teeth) I used FADS
  • Toothpicks to make it all stick
NOTE: Cover largest cake with icing. Cut smaller cake into a moon shape so this it sits around first cake but a bit lower - cover with icing. Now roll out and cover body and head with icing and place on cake. Decorate as you like.
